The rules have changed a bit in the world of image. Many year ago, a dinner party was a simple black dress and heels. However, nowadays a simple black dress just won’t make the cut.
First step, look at the invitation. The invitation says more than one realizes. How is it, is it formal? Does it have specific instructions on the attire? Such as, “Formal” or “White Tie”? Second, ask the host for some tips on what to wear. t all depends on what time of the year it is, who the host is, and what is the special occasion about. You never wish to go underdress; however, you don’t want to go overdress and make the host feel uncomfortable.
Now that you have an idea of what type of event it is, here are some tips.
1. Never wear jeans to a dinner party. If it isn’t a BBQ, then jeans are not appropriate.
2. Always wear a nice top, since this is a dinner party, you will be sitting most of the time. Which means the blouse/dress/shirt you wear should be a flattering color on your skin, something that expresses who you are, but that is not flashy.
3. Wear nice accessories, but don’t over do it.
4. If you are still not sure on what to wear, take a nice scarf and earrings with you, one that can dress you up if need be.
Remember, the most important thing about your image is to make sure you feel comfortable and beautiful. Don’t be scared to be a little daring, but just make sure you are looking fabulous.
